Almost 2 million hectares of forests across NSW has been burnt since July yet logging is being allowed to continue in native forests across the state. With so much damage to critical native habitat and huge losses to forestry resources, we need to press pause on logging until the full impacts of the fires can be assessed.
The fires across NSW have been unprecedented. As much as 10% of National Parks have been burnt. Scientists have described the fires in areas of World Heritage listed Gondwana Rainforest as a global tragedy. Hundreds of Koalas have been reported killed and critical Koala habitat destroyed. Allowing logging while there is so much uncertainty about the impact of the fires is irresponsible. The forests need a break.
Sign this petition calling on NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian to put a moratorium on logging native forests until the fire risk subsides and the full impact of the fires on our forests can be assessed.
