Plastic Free NSW

To the Honourable President and Members of the Legislative Council of New South Wales. This petition of certain citizens of New South Wales states that:

  • Every year thousands of marine animals are injured and killed in NSW as a result of ingesting or being caught in plastic waste.

  • It is estimated that 8 million tonnes of plastic waste enters our waterways globally each year.

Your petitioners request that the Parliament introduce legislation that:

  • Phase out all single-use plastics in NSW by 2023, including an immediate ban on plastic bags, plastic straws, and polystyrene products.

  • Require all packaging used in NSW to be recyclable, compostable, or reusable by the end of 2023.

  • Achieve 'zero pellet loss' in industrial processes by the end of 2020 to stop industrial plastics entering the environment.

  • Introduce mandatory lint filters for washing machines that trap plastic micro-fibres  by the end of 2023.

I DEFINITELY support this…..we need to cut down on all plastic packaging and have more outlets like Coles do, to recycle current plastic as we transition…..

It’s time that NSW took action to reduce our use of plastic and that means banning plastic bags, single use plastic and getting manufacturers/supermarkets as well on board by reducing the amount of excessive plastic on their products. It’s time and more important now than ever. We need to reduce, reuse, recycle. Please take action.

So much education on the dangers of plastic and too little action to avoid its damage. It’s time to act now!

II urge to put an end to the use of plastic. It suffocates a vital ecosystem, which may have dramatic consequences not only for its precious life but also for humanity
