South Coast and Illawarra

South Coast and Illawarra

The South Coast and Illawarra regions of NSW are known for their natural wonders. From world-class beaches and rivers, to forests, wilderness and the mountains, these special places are much-loved by residents and visitors alike and the community wants to see them valued and protected.

The South Coast takes pride in the distinctive character of its small towns and villages, with traditional industries such as dairy and fishing being joined by a thriving, emerging food scene and growth in aged care and education. The Greens would also like to see the region become a renewable energy powerhouse, with solar and batteries at community-scale for local energy use and export to the rest of NSW.

The future of the South Coast and Illawarra depends on a healthy environment, building resilient communities and improving the physical and cultural linkages between them, and providing sustainable growth in good jobs, especially for young and Indigenous people who are overrepresented in unemployment and underemployment.

The coming decade will see vital decisions made about the future of the South Coast and Illawarra. I will stand with the community to ensure the best interests of our environment and creating a better, fairer society guides our direction.
